Coach okays french euro preparation, wants guys to do it all for free. I've been there a couple times. He gives you everything. "No shit." No shit. "No shit is all you got." No shit is all you got. You can learn a lot. I've been there and it sucks."
What's the best thing you've learned from watching him work?
First we have to do what the boss tells us. We're in a room and we just sit there and we're working, just like that. He doesn't give us anything else. He says, "Go get a haircut." He knows what that's about. He asks for the best haircut. He's like, "Come on, you're here to work." He knows. He's doing what he needs to do, and the guys work hard. No shit is all you got. You can learn a lot. It's hard but you can do everything you need to do.
How has the relationship progressed since you began working with him?
We're at our own places now. He's like, "I want you in my office when I need you." He's one guy and I'm one person. He tells me, "Go do what you need to do."
I've been working in the past, but not always well. Sometimes I work harder because I feel like I'm being asked to do a lot of things I wasn't asked to do before. And then he will ask for a certain number of extra hours. He makes me stay until he sees that I'm ready for that number. When the number is called, we all stand up.
If you want to make a difference in your team, it's so easy. It's hard work. It's tough work. Sometimes the best teams we have come together because of us working hard. It is just a matter of time. There is no time. Time is gold. If you can go from being bad, to good, you're doing your job right.
How does it feel working with a guy in a position of power like Cazare?
How does he treat the players? What is his attitude like when the coach or the GM talks to him? Is his level of focus always the same? Is he the same guy in every place? I don't know his thoughts. He was on the field [at Michigan] so it's easy to talk to. I saw him talk on the field when he was coaching. He's one of the hardest guys to get along with when it comes to football.
"Everybody is on the same page."
How does he feel about you being from a different state or country than what he is? I kno
